Bell destined for Red Sox/ What about Mark Kotsay?

Looking at the teams that are most in the market for a closer, it would make the most sense if the Boston Red Sox signed San Diego RHP Heath Bell to be their closer. With Jonathan Papelbon going to the Phillies, Boston is the best team remaining that needs a stopper at the end of the game. (They also need a manager, but thats another story.) Add in the fact that the Red Sox said they would only sign Papelbon for three years and thats exactly what Bell is looking for, and there's the match that makes the most sense. Could the Mets get involved? Sandy Alderson did say that he was pursuing a multi-year contract for his next closer. If Bell's asking price is in the $9-$10 million dollar range on AAV (average annual value,) the Mets could be in it. Likely the Red Sox will offer more with $10-$12 per year seemingly where he fits contract wise.
The Padres signed outfielder Mark Kotsay to a 1 year, $1.25 million contract. Kotsay, at this stage of his career, has become a valuable bench player and I think could have landed more money on the open market. Maybe even a 2 year deal. He may have just wanted to return to the west coast where he had the best years of his career with San Diego and Oakland. His contract is very much (obviously) in the Mets budget and would have been an excellent acquisition. I think it is more likely the Mets will snag a couple of proven players on minor league contracts and see if they can pay them the league minimum.
