Even though the games mean very little in the grand scheme of things, the Mets pulled off a tremendous comeback in the 9th inning of the 8-6 win over the Cardinals. The loss was certainly difficult for the Cardinals who had an opportunity to crawl to just a game out of the NL Wild Card race. Because of whats happened in past years, it is refreshing to see that the Mets continue to show up and play hard. They managed to split a 6 game roadtrip where they faced both Atlanta and St Louis; 2 teams that needed to win those games.
I give a lot credit to manager Terry Collins, who has managed to be upbeat and supportive almost all season. He also has let his team have it when they played uninspired baseball and has questioned effort when needed. Though i thought when he ripped his team after Thursday, I thought he should have backed up his words by benching players (mainly Pagan), the team did respond by playing respectable baseball for the following six games against good teams.
