Mauch managed the Phillies from 1962-1968, Expos from 1969-1975, Twins from 1976-1980 and Angels 1981-1982, 1985-1987. In both 1982 and 1986, he had the Angels within one out of going to the World Series. As early as his time with the Phillies in the early 1960s, Mauch was known to implement things such as the hit and run, double switches and strategic pitching changes that were revolutionary for the time. Tony LaRussa gets credit for creating the only one out reliever, but it was Mauch who perhaps got the ball rolling when it comes to making mulitple pitching changes in a game.
