Miller is a power hitter who has mastered the AAA level. He strikes out way too much but plays a decent center field. He has had cups of coffee with the Marlins, Royals and Athletics. After struggling with Kansas City and Oakland in 2010 playing in AAA, he caught stride in 2011. He hit .276 with 32 HR and 88 RBI in 110 games but struck out 179 times. To me, its something the Mets should consider.
I had a chance to watch Miller in 2009 spring training playing for the Marlins. Its obvious he's a free swinger, but he will hit for power and play a good defensive center field. I think its worth the chance. He can play along side Andres Torres and even play every day if he makes the adjustments to the major leagues.
Who do you remove from the 40 man roster to take Miller's place? I say DJ Carrasco, who other than having a contract for next season, has no reason for being on the roster. Alderson was able to DFA Ryoto Igarashi last year and add him as a non roster player. Igarashi still got his chance to be on the big club. And whats the worst that could happen, Carrasco becomes a free agent? I'd rather see how Jai Miller fits this team than see if DJ Carrasco can make a comeback.
