Oldest notable living former MLB players

       This is something that has always intrigued me. I look back at the history of the game of baseball and so much of it is only known because of a history book. When I was younger, there was first hand account of baseball in the 1800s and the turn of the century. Of course, I have gotten older and many of the players and historians have passed away.

    The oldest living player is Connie Marrero, who is 101 years, 23 days old. He did not make his MLB debut until 1950, when he was 38 years old. He is one of two former MLB players who are over 100 years old. Pitcher Virgil Trucks is the oldest notable player, at 95 years, 22 days. That ranks him 10th on the list. Trucks pitched from 1941-1957 for several teams, including the Yankees and Tigers. Former Chicago Cubs SS Lennie Merullo is 11th on the list, at 95 years, 13 days. He played from 1941-1947.
    The oldest living Hall of Famer is Boston Red Sox 2B Bobby Doerr, who is currently 94 years, 41 days old at number 15. He can also trace baseball back to his debut, which was April 20, 1937, a date no other living player played. Monte Irvin is 21st at 93, 83. Another Red Sox veteran, SS Johnny Pesky is 27th at 92, 234. 
    Stan Musial is probably the most accomplished living player as he ranked 40th on the list at 91, 179. Former MLB player and manager Grady Hatton ranks 68th at 89, 204. Legendary OF and NY Mets broadcaster Ralph Kiner is number 69, at 89, 204. St Louis Cardinals 2B, manager and coach Red Schoendienst ranks 75th at 89, 106. That makes 5 MLB Hall of Famers among the top 100.
