I do want to bring up the question of whether or not the Mets need to upgrade their catching position. Josh Thole obviously had his issues defensively but did as well as one could with the bat. The question the Mets have to answer is whether or not he should be the starting catcher in 2012. Should they look to move Thole? Should they bring in a more accomplished platoon player than Ronny Paulino? Paulino was not very good last year and to me, he should be backing up a catcher that is playing every day. (How about St. Louis?) Ramon Hernandez is a free agent, but he has fallen off since Omar Minaya offered him and Bengie Molina identical contracts at the same time before the 2006 season. Chris Iannetta could be had in a trade but the verdict is still out on how good he can become. Geovanny Soto is not a bad idea, but he may cost too much in a trade. I think they should, at the very least bring in another catcher who can play some good defense and catch a good game.
I would assume most of the responses will include "Get rid of Thole." Ok, if thats how you feel, then make a suggestion of who the catcher should be in 2012. Cause its not like a tandem of Mike Nickeas and Kai Gronauer could work.
