Obviously they didn't. I think we forget to remember that their reward for getting into the playoffs was to take on the National League juggernaut Philadelphia Phillies with all their pitching. Even I thought they would have their word cut out for them to have a chance in that series. Even at 2-2 in Philadelphia, it seemed tough to see the Cardinals beating the Phillies with Roy Halliday pitching. But Chris Carpenter managed to outpitch him 1-0, sending them into the next round. Then they had to face the next toughest team in the NL, the Milwaukee Brewers. And they did. They also trailed the World Series 3-2 and were down to their final strike in consecutive innings and won. So stop saying this team didn't deserve the series. If you are a Met fan, you're only saying that because you are still bitter about 2006, when once again, the Cardinals were the better team. If you are a Yankee fan, you should care more about how the Yankees couldn't get out of the first round when they had the best record in the league. And Phillies fans.... well you had the best record in baseball. And lost in the first round. And to the Cardinals who won it all. So congrats to the St. Louis Cardinals, 2011 World Series Champions, and the best team in baseball in 2011, at least until the winter meetings.
