I openly admit that I root against the Yankees and Phillies. Nothing against either team, but I would expect Yankees fans watching the Mets in the playoffs from home to root against them. Rooting against the Phillies is fun, with the hopes of an Atlanta Brave like run of consecutive division titles and only one World Series to show for it.
I have to say, the postseason has been fun to watch so far. I think the coverage on TBS and TNT has been a lot better and all the series are very competitive. I wouldn't have expected both NLDS to go to five games, but they have.
I truely thought the Tigers best chance to finish off the Yankees was in game four. (Even though I predicted a Yankee win in the game.) Game five at Yankee stadium is going to be a tough game for anyone, let alone a team playing in a- winner take all- deciding game. But if the Yankee train can be derailed on its way to the World Series, the Tigers are the only team good enough to take them out. Remember the Rangers don't have Cliff Lee this year and I think the Yankees will be able to hurt the Rangers starting pitching.
I said initially that the Phillies equivilant to the Tigers is the Brewers and I still believe the Brewers are the only NL team that has what it takes to beat the mighty Phillies. I am however, intrigued by the Cardinals taking this series to five games. Since it has made it that far, why not root for a game five win by the Cardinals, though I think it is unlikely.
With my interest being in the Yankees and Phillies being eliminated as quickly as possible, my eyes are on the Tigers/ Yankees game five today with the hopes that Doug Fister can rebound from his poor performance in a weird game one and pitch like he has all season. I like the Detroit offense and think that they can figure out Nova. If not, its hard not to reserve a spot in the 2011 World Series for the Yankees. I am not expecting the Phillies to lose game five to the Cardinals, but it would be nice. I am actually rooting harder for the Brewers to beat the Diamondbacks because it would be a tougher matchup for the Phillies in the NLCS. A Phillies/ Diamondbacls NLCS will also be a free pass for the Phillies to make the World Series.
