Why did the White Sox name Robin Ventura manager?

The White Sox surprised baseball by naming former third baseman Robin Ventura as manager replacing Ozzie Guillen. Though nobody will dispute the fact that Ventura was a smart and fundamentally sound player, the move has been questioned because Ventura has no managerial experience. Part of the reason Guillen was let go was the White Sox thought he could not get the most out of his talented players. Yet they replace him with somebody who has no experience getting anything out of any player. I would have thought they would have brought in a different voice with a track record of some sorts. Maybe a top member of a coaching staff or a minor league manager. Remember the last time a team brought in an ex-player with no experience, what a disaster with AJ Hinch and the D-Backs. At least Hinch was in the teams front office. Ventura was an assistant coach on a high school team in California. 
In spite of Ventura's track record as a player, my question is how are veteran players going to deal with a boss who has never done anything similar to this before. I mean, what happens when Ventura has to challenge a player like Adam Dunn or AJ Pierzynski or Paul Konerko? It can become a case of the inmates running the assylum. Expecially after succeeding an in-your-face manager like Guillen. 
The only thing that will hide these potential problems is winning. Last year the White Sox were a little more consistancy away from being a contended. If they turn the corner, Ventura gets a chance to establish himself. Otherwise this looks like a train wreck for a manager who was fun to watch as a player.
